The Six Step Process Assessment

The six-step assessment process is a continuous improvement process aimed at improving student learning. It involves the following steps :

1. Develop student learning outcomes that align with the university’s mission, the university’s student learning goals, and (if applicable) the accreditation requirements of the respective discipline.
2. Develop and implement methods of assessment involving direct and indirect measures.
3. Determine criteria for success.
4. Collect and analyze data.
5. Plan (and execute) improvement actions.
6. Document assessment and improvement activities.

The six-step assessment process is used by California State University, Fullerton to assess student learning outcomes and performance outcomes . It is important to note that this process is not unique to California State University, Fullerton and can be applied in other contexts as well.
