Information Technology Architecture

Information technology architecture is the process of developing methodical information technology specifications, models, and guidelines using a variety of information technology notations, such as Unified Modeling Language (UML), within a coherent information technology architecture framework. It follows formal and informal information technology solution, enterprise, and infrastructure architecture processes. The goal is to provide a consistent approach to delivering information technology capabilities. This approach encourages the use of open technology standards and global technology interoperability.

IT architecture is a series of principles, guidelines, or rules used by an enterprise to direct the process of acquiring, building, modifying, and interfacing IT resources throughout the enterprise. These resources can include equipment, software, communications, development methodologies, modeling tools, and organizational structures.

An information technology architect is responsible for creating systematic IT rules and models following established IT processes and using notations like UML. The architecture aims to help businesses achieve their goals using technological solutions.
