The student evaluation process is a comprehensive educational evaluation that assesses a student’s areas of challenges and strengths. It is called an evaluation process because it involves a series of steps that go into it. The evaluation process is initiated by either the parents or the school, and it includes creating an evaluation plan, getting consent to do the evaluation, and conducting various tests and assessments.
The evaluation plan outlines the recommended testing, which may include psycho-educational testing, interviews, classroom observation, functional behavioral assessment (FBA), psychological evaluation, speech-language, physical therapy, occupational therapy, or other specialized evaluations.
As part of an assessment, teachers provide students with descriptive feedback that guides their efforts towards improvement. The goal of the evaluation process is to provide all the information an IEP team needs to make decisions about services, supports, and interventions.
