Sample Assessment Process Cycle

The assessment process cycle is a continuous improvement process aimed at enhancing student learning. The cycle typically involves six steps:

1. Develop student learning outcomes that align with the university’s mission, student learning goals, and accreditation requirements of the respective discipline.
2. Develop and implement methods of assessment involving direct and indirect measures.
3. Determine criteria for success.
4. Collect and analyze data.
5. Plan (and execute) improvement actions.
6. Document assessment and improvement activities.

The cycle is iterative, meaning that the results of one cycle inform the next cycle.
